Frrole Makes Twitter Into A Local News Source For 51 Cities Worldwide

If you like to follow news and events for your city and happen to live in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth or Sydney, you’ll get a kick out of this web app. Like a traditional newspaper you can refine the tweets into a few standard categories such as headlines, entertainment, sports, deals and jobs.

Frrole still has a few kinks to work out — I noticed that the signal to noise ratio was a little low in that around 40 per cent of the tweets pulled into the newsfeed were random rants that mentioned the city and not actual news or events items, but I’m confident the developers will refine the algorithms to improve desired news tweets as time goes on.

If you’re in one of the 51 cities in Australia, Canada, India, Singapore, the UK or the US, you should give it a try. There’s clearly work to be done, but the concept is good, and since the site is subdivided similarly to Craigslist, there are no logins or permissions to access Facebook, Twitter or Google.
