Chrome Probably Heading To iPhone And iPad

According to a note published by Macquarie Equities Research, Google is working on an iPhone and iPad version of its Chrome browser, slated for launch sometime this year.

Macquarie suggests Google will launch Chrome as soon as the second quarter of this year, although the browser will probably be as limited as other browsers on the iPhone. The assumption also comes with the idea that this might be the beginning of a new Browser Wars, this time on mobile. What do you think? Would you be interested in Chrome on iOS?

I've often wondered why they haven't already. I mean, it's webkit.

God I hope this is true. Dolphin is great but iChrome (or whatever they decide to call it) would blitz it. As it's also on Webkit there should be no reason to reject it. The only argument against Chrome making an iOS version would be because they can't use V8, but I (and sure as hell many others) would be happy to sacrifice that to have Chrome at all.

I thought Apple app market rejected apps that replace the iPhones pre-existing functionality?

They need to fix the horrendous bookmark sync bugs in current releases to make it useful for a start.

Then Apple needs to allow users to specify an alternate default browser. Currently you have to jailbreak to do this

I was just thinking about this today. I would love to have the extensions that I have on the desktop become available to me on iPad.

been waiting so long for this!
