Build Your Own Reminders With Tasker

If you handle your to-dos mostly on your Android phone, you may have a to-do app with timed reminders. If it’s the reminders that are the important part of the app and not the to-do list, you may be able to get by using Tasker as your memory jog.

Lifehacker reader Tony Bullard wanted to pay us back for introducing him to Tasker, our favourite Android automation utility, so he put together this guide to setting up timed reminders that will appear in the notifications bar whenever you set them to.

Obviously, you’ll need Tasker installed ($5.99), but other than that, the process is simple. Tony uses his notifications to alert him to log his food, and when he taps the alerts to dismiss them, they open up MyFitnessPal — the app he’s using to track his diet. The possibilities are endless — you can use the custom notifications to remind you to take breaks and then open your favourite music player, for example. What do you think? What would you use the notifications to help you remember? Share your thoughts in the comments below. Thanks Tony!
