If you grow blueberries or other fruiting plants that are preyed upon by birds you can keep the winged thieves at bay while allowing access to your plants for honeybees by using inexpensive wildlife netting and a PVC frame for the netting.
YouTube user LDSPrepper shares his method for securing his blueberries using a $US13 roll of wildlife netting, 1.9cm PVC pipes and rebar to attach the PVC piping. Whenever your plants aren’t bearing fruit you can remove the PVC and netting and let the rebar remain or remove that as well. He also painted the PVC black with spray paint to blend in better with his backyard.
In total he spent around $US50 in materials to keep several blueberry bushes safe. Since this solution should work for many years this is inexpensive insurance to make sure you can reap the harvest from your fruit and nut bearing plants.
