Turn Leftover Dinner Rolls Into Filled Bread Bowls

Bake too many dinner rolls over the long weekend? Instead of letting them slowly go stale in your fridge, hollow those puppies out and fill them with single-serving deliciousness for a quick snack, easy breakfast, or lunch for a crowd.

Following our “fill delicious things with other delicious things” theme that we’ve mentioned before, most notably eggs in avocados or orange peels, this trick uses your old dinner rolls as the dish for your meal, and any leftovers you may have on hand as the tasty filling.

Just hollow out the roll (and save the bread to make breadcrumbs later!) stuff the roll with your leftovers or anything else you happen to have in the fridge, crack an egg or two into the roll, and bake it until the egg is nicely set. In just a few minutes, you’ll have a bread bowl filled with deliciousness that’s perfect for breakfast that can cook while you’re getting ready, a quick lunch on a weekend afternoon, or an easy dish to make for a party. As for fillings, the sky’s the limit: pre-cooked seasoned potatoes, leftover vegetable dip, some herbs and cheese, even simple deli ham all work in this case, and the folks at The Kitchn have a few more suggestions for great fillings at the link below.

Bread bowls aren’t exactly a new idea, but most often they’re served with soups and stews inside. This trick is a great way to take the idea and spin it into an easy-to-prepare meal that cleans out those pesky leftovers. Have you tried this before? Have a better idea? Let’s hear it in the comments below.
