4 Beautiful XBMC Skins That Will Make Your Media Centre Look Awesome

XBMC is by far our favourite media software, letting you create an awesome, customisable, play-everything media centre right on your TV. One of its coolest features is the ability to completely overhaul the interface with different skins, and while there are more skins and layouts than we could possibly show in one gallery, we’re showing off four of our favourites today.

Scroll down to see a few screenshots of each skin. And remember that each skin is customisable in its own right — which means that the media layouts below are only one of many. If you like the way a skin looks even a little bit, install it to XBMC and play around with it to see everything it can do.

  • I love metropolis, been using it since eden was first released. In particular the banner tv show view (with the use banner.jpg option ticked and regular poster files as the folder.jog and a banner.jpg file using the art downloaded extension configured for tv only and only banner, made it easier to get all the shows ready for it). Ive found a few small bugs but I most of them will be fixed in the next release, which I hope is soon)

I also change the theme for metropolis to purple mosaic (which you can get from the xbmc forum for metropolis, a steam punk version is also in the works.)

  • I use Rapier, which is great. It would be handy to know which of the above is keyboard/mouse friendly. Whilst the visuals are great, if it can’t handle a keyboard/mouse input then it is not useful to some.

  • Please provdide the right pictures of Aeon Nox. The ones you are showing are half empty because of a bug in the skin when XBMC hasn’t restarted.

  • I used reFocus for about 12 months. Its especially good for providing some eye candy on slower systems. Since upgrading the media centre I’ve settled on Aeon mq3. You’ll have to google for a link to the repo, but once you’ve installed via zip it’ll be available with the rest f the skins within xbmc.

Aeon mq3 feels a bit slicker than aeon nox and has some more customisation options.
