Add Simple Page Numbers To A Word Document

Word will let you format page numbers to an incredible degree of precision, but adding any kind of page numbering requires grappling with headers and footers, which can be off-putting for casual Office users. Fortunately, there is an easy workaround.

The official Word blog highlights something I had never actually noticed: there’s a simple page numbering option on the Insert tab, which lets you add a page number (and automatically creates the appropriate header or footer). One minor trap: the Page Numbers option will be greyed out if you’re not in Print Layout view. Hit the post for more details on how it works.
