Jailbreaks And Stuff iOS 5 Onto Older Devices

If you’re still toting around an iPhone 3G or the iPod Touch equivalents, you might be yearning for some of the fancy features of iOS 5, even though Apple doesn’t officially support the early devices. If that’s the case, Whited00r is a tool to force the new OS onto your early generation device.

Whited00r is a custom jailbreak version of iOS 5 and includes most of the features, including multitasking, reminders and its own version of iCloud. You will not get the new Notification Center, but at least you’ll have some of the new features. Installation isn’t automated like it is on other jailbreaks. Instead, after you download the custom firmware for your device, you install it manually using iTunes. Whited00r has a guide for doing this if you decide to update your device.

As with all jailbreaks, proceed at your own risk. There’s likely a good reason Apple didn’t support the older devices with its new OS, so don’t be surprised if you lose a little zip in the process. For other devices, refer to our jailbreaking guide. Whited00r is a free download from the developers site below.
