DIY Heated Slippers Keep Your Feet Warm

There’s nothing like a pair of slippers to keep your feet warm and comfortable when you’re walking around the house. A good pair will also keep your feet warm, but these heated slippers from Instructables user Vach takes the concept of toasty feet to a new level.

The project is straightforward — you’ll need to make the slippers, which Vach shows you how to do using a pair of your own shoes as a template (you won’t destroy the shoes, you just need them for sizing purposes.) Get out your sewing kit and go nab some comfortable fabric from the craft store, because you’ll have to assemble these slippers yourself. When you do, leave plenty of room for the rice that you’ll use as stuffing. Fill the pieces with rice, sew the slippers shut, and toss them in the microwave for about 60 seconds. The result will be toasty slippers that you can slide on your feet and keep warm even if the heat is off.

If you’re squeamish about putting what will eventually be on your feet in the microwave, feel free to wrap them in paper or put them in some kind of container first — but the microwave is the best way to get them warm before you slip them on. If you want to take them a step further, you can add a thick cloth or denim sole so the slippers will be suitable for trips to the mailbox or out to walk the dog.
