How To Check Your App Data Usage In iOS 5

If you’re running out of space on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and you’ve slimmed down your media collection, the only thing left is to put your apps on a diet. But how can you tell which apps are eating up the most data? iOS 5 now has an option that lets you find out. Here’s what to do:

  1. Open up the Settings app on your home screen
  2. Tap General
  3. Tap Usage
  4. Wait a minute for the app usage statistics to load and you’ll see exactly how much data each app is using
  5. Tap any of the apps for additional information

Be sure to check out the video up top for a full demonstration.

If all that data usage is so troublesome that you just want to get rid of that app right away, when tapping to get additional information about an app you’ll also be presented with a big red delete button. Tap that to get rid of the offending app. Alternatively, just open the app on your iDevice and delete any files you don’t need.
