Periscope Adds Context To News Stories In Your Browser


Firefox/Chrome/Safari: News aggregation service News360’s new browser extension, Periscope, offers up like-minded stories related to the news articles you’re reading to the top of your screen.

Using similar methods of news aggregation as the previously featured mobile apps, Periscope looks at the story you’re currently reading, then shows you a list of similar articles on other websites with a slim drop down from the toolbar. On top of showing related stories from outlets and viewpoints you might not consider, it also shows a live stream of tweets related the subject, as well as photos and videos. You don’t need to have a News360 account to use it, but if you do, you can save stories for later viewing.

It works on most of the bigger newspaper sites we tested it on, showing either directly related stories or adding background information. It’s a handy tool if you’re an avid news reader looking for other viewpoints or information. You can download any of the three extensions from the link below.
