iPhone Lens Dial Adds Three Hardware Lenses

Modifying your photos with Instagram effects after you've shot a photo is nice, but what if you want to actually change the kind of image you capture? Photojojo's Lens Dial gives you three swappable iPhone lenses for wide angle, telephoto and fisheye.

The kit slips onto your iPhone, and you can easily turn the dial in order to swap lenses. The whole kit is $US250, which is pricey, and bulky, so you won't be able to slip your phone in and out of your pocket as easily. Also, it's a bad idea to keep those lenses exposed when you toss your phone into a purse, so I'm thinking this is mostly only for using when you're sure you're going out and taking photographs, rather than just having on you all the time.

If you've got spare lenses lying around from old cameras, you could probably manage to rig up your own system too. For example, you can use an old DVD lens to make a great macro lens.

I've just bought a Olloclip lens that's only $US70 and fits in my pocket where ever I am. Same concept, better execution. http://olloclip.com/

The phrase "Lipstick on a Pig" comes to mind. Dear god, why would anyone use this? Take an already rubbish camera, then spend hundreds of bucks to add poor quality lenses improperly fixed, and you might as well take a bag of crayons and get a 5 year old to draw the scene.

For less money, and far less bulk in your pocket you can buy any number of capable, tiny, point and shoots which will take far better pictures and last longer, and you won't look like Doc Brown's idiot brother using it.

I'm a big fan of the ad campaign I've seen around Perth with such pearls as "a camera phone is to photography what 2 minute noodles are to cooking", and "If your camera also sends text messages, that will explain why your photos are rubbish".

Article tags: Lenses, Photography, iPhone" - the last should automatically rule out the first two...

I love how this article is right above a picture of an epic facepalm and "How to Identify and Learn from your mistakes". Maybe you should add "(See Above)"... :D

Seriously, just buy a decent camera.

While I agree that this is a gimmicky and stupid add-on, I hate that attitude from those above in the thread that you can't take decent pictures unless you happen to be carrying a 1D around with you. The camera on the 4S is amazing for a phone. Isn't the rule that the best kind of camera is the one you've got with you?

might be amazing for a phone, but 3 years ago i picked up a camera, around the same size as my iphone 4, and takes much better photo's... for $150... always sits in my car, and pocket when i go out.
