Slice Your Own Steaks

We love to have steaks and save money at the same time. One excellent way to combine these two preferences is by buying beef directly from a butcher or warehouse in primal cuts rather than already butchered steaks. All you need to finish butchering the meat is a good sharp knife, a cutting board and a clean towel.

Instructables user Keko gives us a step-by-step guide to slicing a primal cut into individual steaks. The most important factors are having a sharp knife and placing the beef properly on the cutting board so that you’re working with the meat and not against it. The towel is there to remove any blood as soon as you take the meat out of the vacuum-sealed package; any blood on the meat will oxidise quickly and turn the meat brown.
