Explosions In The Sky

If you're feeling a little slow to start the week, instrumental guitar band Explosions in the Sky serves up a little epic ambient atmosphere to get your juices flowing.

The band describes their work as cathartic mini-symphonies, and that's about right. They're basically sweeping, epic instrumentals comprised of of electric guitars and drums that are great to tune out to when you need to get head-down in your work. If Explosions in the Sky sound familiar, then you've probably watched Friday Night Lights at some point in your life — they provide the score to the lives of the townspeople of Dylan, Texas. If this is your first foray into EitS, I'd recommend getting started with their 2007 album All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone, linked below.

I Love this band, thankyou for sharing it with people

video doesnt work in Australia. Come on, guys....

      Try http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pP09piedtAk

      Live, but brilliant.

Their song "Time Stops" is amazing! It reminds me of that scene in Hancock where he gets shot, then slowly gets up, and begins running away from the chick, and becoming more awesome

seriously though, its an epic song... it starts nice and slow, then halfway though it gets really powerful and moving.

PS: Australia sucks... what is this blocking due to copyright bollocks!? Im moving to canada!

They're touring Australia soon. Also may I recommend Godspeed you black emperor, set fire to flames, do make say think...if you enjoy this band

Also, This Will Destroy You and Mono.

Also also, not coming to Perth :-(

I love this kind of music.

For some more local stuff - Sydney chaps Sleepmakeswaves are a lot of fun (their whole album is on bandcamp, but my favourite track: http://sleepmakeswaves.com/track/a-gaze-blank-and-pitiless-as-the-sun).

For the New Zealanders out there, Jakob are pretty wonderful (example: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tpj8za4b_pc).

Can't go wrong with Sigur Ros (try: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zr_MJAOyOeU) or Mogwai either (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrIRcB0x4iU).

For the folk who enjoy something a bit heavier, give Oceansize a go. I always thought if I had to see the world end, their music would probably be the soundtrack.

Another slightly heavier instrumental band people may be interested in is ...And So I Watch You From Afar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KU_wQb1qs-4

For something else a bit heavier, look up ISIS. Oceanic gives me shivers.

if anyone here is into the british drama 'skins', look up 'your hand in mine'... great track by explosions in the sky, and a fantastic clip showing the relationship between two of the most complex and beautiful characters i've seen... the chemistry between the clip and the song is perfect.

No. You should start with The Earth Is Not A Cold, Dead Place. Don't be ridiculous.

Wow, great music. They remind me of Mogwai and GY!BE smooshed into one. Brilliant.

It's a shame they're only playing in Sydney & Brisbane when they come to Australia.

The Rescue (album) and some songs off of their other albums are free to download on their site.
