Use Heavy Cardboard For A Free, Recyclable Office Chair Mat

If you have laminate or hardwood floors in your home or home office, you probably have a chair mat under your desk chair. If that plastic mat is getting old and ragged, consider making your own from a cardboard appliance box for a free, recyclable and effective alternative.

The blog Living Large in Our Little House, which is host to a wealth of tips for living well in a small space, explains that when it came time to replace the old plastic chair mat, they opted to cut an old cardboard appliance box instead of head to the office supply store to spend close to $100 on a new plastic mat.

The new cardboard chair mat sits behind and under the desk, so looks aren’t important, and the heavy cardboard is easy to roll around on without damaging the chair or the floor. Best of all, it didn’t cost a cent.
