Use Flavoured Salts Instead Of Sauces For Flavourful Fried Foods

For many, fried food and dipping sauces go hand in hand. For a less messy and still flavourful meal, try flavoured “dipping salts” or a pinch of sea salt mixed with herbs and spices instead for a punch of flavour with fried foods without drowning them in sauce.Over at The Kitchn, Anjali Prasertong retells a story where she ordered tempura in Japan and was presented with small bowls of dipping salt with her meal instead of the customary dipping sauces she was expecting. The result was a fried snack that had a lot of flavour but wasn’t weighed down or drowned in sauce.

Flavoured salts are easily available at delis, but they can be expensive; she suggests making your own with some sea salt and spices that you may have around the house to get the same effect for your fried foods. Experiment with different flavour combinations to come up with something unique. Have you made your own flavoured salts? Share your tips in the comments below.
