Remove Gunk From Your Iron With A Dryer Sheet

Irons can accumulate debris over time by being used on small plastic buttons or blends of fabric with too much plastic. One simple way to fix this is by quickly ironing a dryer sheet.

Real Simple's website offers this method:

Remove gunk from the soleplate of an iron. With the setting on low, rub the iron over the dryer sheet until the residue disappears, and you're left with a pristine press.

Give it a try next time you use an iron on something you probably shouldn't have.

    What's a dryer sheet?

Scented sheets of fabric that you can place with clothes in the dryer to make them smell nice. While they're much more common in the US (air drying still being rather more common her in Australia), you can get them at supermarkets.

        Cheers, thanks for the response.

what about when you've got crap on your iron, and then you iron your clothes and the crap goes on to your clothes, how do you get rid of that??

Whenever I use the steam water on my iron, dirty water comes out. How do I clean the insides of my iron? I ruin expensive clothes like this.

We need a comprehensive iron cleaning article.
