We shared a heap of tax return tips last week, but one of the most important things you can do to ensure a speedy return is to make sure you get your name and address right.

Yes, you’d think that fell clearly into the realms of the bleeding obvious, but according to the ATO itself, 300,000 returns submitted through agents last year were delayed in processing because of errors in the name, address or date of birth. Big fat d’oh right there.

More than 70% of Australians use a tax agent, presumably to ensure they get everything they are entitled to. However, while your agent can check that you’ve got all your possible refunds, they can’t generally check if your address is accurate. That’s up to you.
