You probably know that your iPhone has a .com button for quick domain extension typing, but did you know you don’t even have to use it? If you want to go to a .com website, all you need to do is type its name.

When you’re in Safari’s address bar, don’t bother typing www. or .com. Just type what goes in the middle. For example, if you wanted to go to www.flickr.com, just type flickr and Safari will do the rest for you. This won’t work for domains with other extensions, but since many of the sites you visit probably use .com this can save you quite a bit of typing.

Shortcut of the Day highlights a great shortcut on various platforms from the desktop to mobile devices to the web. You can find more shortcuts here.

  • Also worth noting that most desktop browsers recognise the ctrl+enter command which will add a www. and a .com to either side of what you typed into the browser…

And for f’s sake, people, you don’t need to enter the http:// either

I hate watching people use the internet.

  • It doesn’t work for me, when I’m connected to my Bigpond wifi, instead of adding the .com as this article suggests, the phone just redirects to Bigpond’s “bigpondsitehelp.com” page… -.-
