This one’s for those times when you open up the cupboard and find 20 large boxes of “strike on box” matches, when all you really want is one box of “strike anywhere”. As this video shows, making your own is as easy as sanding off the phosphorous that’s on the side of the box, mixing it with a little water, and dipping the matches into it.
Let the matches dry, and presto-chango: Strike anywhere matches. To make the matches even more effective, you can try double-dipping them after they dry, or even adding shavings from other match heads to the mixture.
Strike anywhere matches are getting harder to find in regular stores, so this tip can make getting ready for a camping trip or putting together an emergency preparedness kit a whole lot easier. Just be sure to store them safely, since they don’t take much friction to get started.
