Reader Plus Is A Chrome Extension That Adds Missing Features To Google Reader

Chrome: Reader Plus is an extension for Google Chrome that adds missing features, easy theming and many small touches to Google Reader.Google Reader is about as good as they come for efficient feed reading, but there’s plenty that can be done to make it more personal. Some users like it just a bit flashier than the spartan Google Blue colour scheme can provide, while others would actually prefer it to be even more minimalist. Some things are just missing—like showing an unread count higher than 1000 items.

There are small single-job extensions for fixing one thing at a time, but Reader Plus is useful in that it does so much at once. You can change the “mark as read” behaviour, have it display real unread counts, theme the whole thing in Helvetica, and add filters all in one extension. You can even alter the entire layout to display your feeds in columns, if you’re into that.

The extension’s interface could be prettier, but it does a fairly decent job of laying out all the options available. There’s also an optional toolbar button that adds quick access when Reader isn’t open at all.

Reader Plus is a free extension for Google Chrome, and is available at the Chrome Web Store.
