You can quickly put a slug trap together by cutting an empty plastic bottle into a tiny beer pond. Not only is it quick and easy, but it means you don’t have to dig the unsightly holes in your garden that would normally be used to create a beer-based slug trap.Photo by Brandon Daniel
In case you’re unfamiliar with beer being used in a slug trap: It’s due to the yeast. Slugs and snails aren’t exactly lushes, but they love yeast, and they’ll happily bypass your tastiest plants to take a swim in the stuff. By creating a pond of yeasty liquid, you’re making a trap for slugs or snails to literally fall into, and you can mix baking yeast with sugar in water if you don’t have any beer.
Normally, a trap like this is made by burying a full bottle of beer, with the top left open and flush with the ground. That’s a pretty messy process. Not only is this easier, but it puts the bottle to work one last time before it hits the recycling bin. Hit up the link below for full instructions.
