LG Adds Optimus Me To The Bargain Android Pool

It was always part of the Android vision: cheaper basic phones as well as more expensive high-end models. We’ve seen a couple of cheap Huawei models in recent weeks and a bargain phone from Telstra, and now LG is getting in on the action with the Optimus Me, which goes on sale this week as an unlocked outright buy for $229.

At that price, you get a 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen, a 600MHz processor, 2GB of onboard memory and a 3-megapixel camera. On the upside, the device is sporting Android 2.2 (Froyo), which while not the absolute newest kid on the block is still likely to show up on a lot of Android devices. Price and specs-wise, this falls fairly cleaning between the Ideos X5 and the sub-$100 models.

LG will be selling the phone through Woolworths, Dick Smith, Allphones and Telechoice.
