Learn From Past Mistakes By Looking At Last Year’s Calendar

With the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life, it can be hard to find time to actually reflect on your goals, mistakes, and how they got you to where you are today. Blogger Nathan Bashaw’s five-minute solution: just roll back your calendar.

Some of you may keep detailed journals that help you look back and learn from your mistakes. If you don’t, though, you can take just a few minutes to look back at an old calendar:

Fire up Google Calendar, switch to the month view, and look at what you were doing a year ago. Think about your hopes, fears, expectations, and decisions. Put yourself in your old state of mind. Now think about the difference between what you expected and what actually happened. Take notes.

It’s a pretty interesting idea to look back at exactly what you were doing a year ago and use that as a springboard to reflect on what brought you here. If you haven’t had a chance to reflect on your goals and mistakes of the past, this will quickly get you thinking and help you make fewer mistakes in the future. Of course, you don’t want to be too hard on yourself — the more mistakes you make, the more you learn, too.
