Books are both durable and fragile objects, capable of preserving centuries of knowledge but also vulnerable to their environment. How you store and handle your books can make a big difference in how long they last.

You don't need to be a bibliophile to want to preserve your books (though the reverse is true). And while older books need more care and protection than newer ones do, giving all your books some TLC can help you enjoy them more—for a longer period of time.
Apartment Therapy offers 5 tips for caring for your books, including avoiding books' worst enemies: heat, sunlight, and moisture. One particularly useful tip is how to pull a book out from a shelf:
To properly remove a book from the shelf, push in the two books next to it and grasp the book by either edge of the spine. Don't pull it from the top of the spine.
