Chomp Saves You From Android’s Crappy Market Search

Android: Unless you know the title of an app, the Android Market’s search engine isn’t great. Chomp is a new Market search engine that blows Google’s default out of the water, letting you search by category and filter by price.

Head into the Android Market and search for RSS reader. Your top results will likely contain a few popular readers like Pulse, Newsrob or FeedR, but they’re buried in results that really don’t fit the category of “RSS Reader”. Pulse aims to solve this problem by letting you actually search by category, and — shockingly — returns useful results. Search RSS reader in Chomp and its first 10 results will be the most popular readers in the Market. You can even narrow down your search to free or paid apps and jump right to the Market entry for a given app, so you can download it right away.

We’ve mentioned Chomp’s iPhone app once before as a great way to find new software, and the Andorid app doesn’t disappoint. Frankly, I’m never using the Android Market to search again — Chomp’s search engine is just that much better (in fact, seeing Chomp’s app do so well just makes Google’s Market search that much more embarrassing). This is a must-have download for any Android app fiend. Give it a try, and let us know what you think in the comments.

Chomp is a free download for Android.
