Delete Old iPhone And iPod Backups To Free Up Hard Drive Space

From the files of "I can't believe I didn't think of this", Reddit user keydemographic discovers just how much space those iPhone, iPod and iPad backups can take up on your computer. If you're running low on space and your favourite maintenance tool isn't helping, you may find that iTunes is hogging a few gigs of your system.

Just head in to C:Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes (or ~/Library/iTunes on a Mac), delete the backup folders, and watch your hard drive free up tons of space. [via Reddit]

This path is on standard Windows XP machines,
    but not on Windows 7.
I can't find the equivalent on Win 7.

    Windows 7:
    C:\Users\[NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

its not worling on windows 8.1

You can do this safely via iTunes:
    Edit > Preferences
    Click the Devices tab
Select the backup you want to delete
    Click the Delete Backup button.

If you are looking for the iPhone/iPad backup files in 10.6 then they are found in ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup

This applies to more than iTunes backups.
