Skype Gets 3G And Wi-Fi Video Calling On iPhone, iPad And iPod Touch

iOS only: Skype has made the leap and opened up video calling over mobile and Wi-Fi connections. Now anyone with an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4, iPad or newer iPod touch can get face time with any other Skype user.

.via_bubble {width: 205px; border: none; -moz-border-radius: 5px; -webkit-border-radius: 5px; border-radius: 4px; background: rgb(70,70,70); color: rgb(229,232,217); text-align: left; padding: 12px; margin: 12px 0 12px 0;} .via_bubble a {color: white;} .via_bubble img {border: none;}

Actually, iPads and third-generation iPod touch devices, which lack a front-facing camera, can only receive video calls, but that’s a step up, at least. And as you might expect, two 3G users calling each other with video enabled is not exactly a 24-frames-per-second joyride, but it might work in a pinch.

The updated Skype app is now in the iTunes App Store. Tell us what you think of Skype video calling over mobile in the comments.
