AirPlayer Turns Macs Into AirPlay Destination For iOS Devices

Among the numerous omissions to Apple's otherwise great AirPlay streaming technology was the ability to stream from your iOS device to your Mac (or PC). AirPlayer solves that problem with one click.

Erica Sadun from all-things-Apple blog TUAW decided to take matters into her own hands and develop an AirPlay client for the Mac. It's an incredibly simple piece of software, in that you just open it up and click a button. AirPlayer will do its thing, and when it's all done it'll let you know that the AirPlay service is running on your computer. As soon as this happens you'll be able to stream videos from your iOS device to your Mac.

Right now AirPlayer is a little buggy and doesn't seem to work with iTunes DRM videos (no audio-only support yet either), but it works great with non-DRM video content — like that video you just took with your iPhone 4. If you have any particular trouble, there's a send feedback button right on the app and hopefully we'll see updates that'll make this neat little app even better. Or, you know, maybe Apple will actually add this functionality into Mac OS X Lion.
