Microsoft Is OK With Jailbreaking Windows Phone 7

ChevronWP7 jailbreaks Microsoft's new Windows Phone 7. Luckily, a statement released by Microsoft gives the impression that they aren't intending to play the same cat-and-mouse game with jailbreakers that Apple does. They aren't encouraging it, of course, but they also aren't flat-out condemning it.

We anticipated that people would attempt to unlock the phones and explore the underlying operating system. We encourage people to use their Windows Phone as supplied by the manufacturer to ensure the best possible user experience. Attempting to unlock a device could void the warranty, disable phone functionality, interrupt access to Windows Phone 7 services or render the phone permanently unusable.

    This is so funny, how the tables have turned Apple's ios, itunes and quicktime software is rhetoric. It has become bloatware, an annoyance that you must install. You must have Itunes to be able start using (register) your phone. In the 90's Microsoft would have had lawyers breaking down their door by now. Apple has willingly taken over the mantle as 'the man'. I just hope Apple doesn't lose its mojo and starts churning out souless rubbish for the masses.

    I find it fascinating that "Bill Gates is the devil" Microsoft is so open to having its mobile OS used however people actually wish to use it, while "Think Different" Apple locks their gear down like Fort Knox. The times are a changin
