Windows only: Google Docs are handy because they're always available and easy to pull up. Creating new documents, though, is a multi-click process that could be streamlined. The How-To Geek provides that speed-up through desktop shortcuts or keyboard-triggered launchers.
The web address needed to launch a new document isn't exactly hidden—http://docs.google.com/?action=newdoc opens a new text document, for example—but the Geek's got a whole system down, one with nice icons and, of course, keyboard shortcuts. The how-to also details setting up Docs launchers for Google Apps accounts, and creating quick bookmarklets if you're the type who would always be minimising a browser to get to those shortcuts. If you're more of a Microsoft Office stalwart, Google's recent Cloud Connect tool might be more up your alley.
