How To Get Rid Of The Extra Whitespace In Skype 5 For Mac

Skype 5 for Mac beta came out this morning, and if you use Skype for chat, you may be among the users a little annoyed at the seeming mountain of whitespace between chats in the new release. Here's how to fix it.

Thanks to Andy at pongsocket, you really don't have to do much to keep the same basic styling for Skype 5 but get rid of all that extra whitespace. You just download a styling file, create a new folder called ChatStyles in ~/Library/Application Support/Skype/, and copy the downloaded file into that folder. Relaunch Skype, then open your preferences, switch to the messaging tab, and change the style to Panamerica Mini from the Style dropdown. Pretty simple.

You can grab the file and follow the directions at pongsocket.

I downloaded this beta when it came out and it is horrible. Besides this white space that takes up most of the screen, I don't like that everything is in one window.
When you start a video it will take over the chat screen, so you can't chat unless you lift a stupid little tab, not to mention there's no full screen video.
There is not one thing I prefer this beta over the last version and I will be rolling back to that until this beta stops being so shit.

Love Skype generally. It allows us to stay in contact with our website design clients around the world ...

... But this Beta is very much that: Beta.

If you need it to actually work, use the fully released version and hope for the v5.0 release to drop soon.
