Using the MALM bedframe and SULTAN ALSARP boxspring storage unit, you can create a secret storage area beneath the mattress to give you some extra space.
I can't say enough about the usefulness of good under-the-bed storage. While I generally prefer to just get rid of things I don't use, sometimes you just have to keep unwanted items around — like product boxes, for resale purposes, or clothes you won't wear until the weather changes six months later. While I don't have an IKEA hybrid bed like the one cleverly assembled by blogger and IKEA hacker Heath Ashli, I wish I'd thought of this before buying one.
The idea is pretty simple. The SULTAN ALSARP and MALM beds are about the same size, but the MALM doesn't come with much storage underneath. You can, however, effectively use the entire space under the mattress in a MALM bed by combining it with the ALSARP boxspring storage unit. According to IKEA this wasn't meant to be, but it seems like a pretty awesome match nonetheless.
