Do you have thoughts of grues whenever you’re stumbling around in the dark? Do you own a Kindle? Then you’ll want to try out PortableQuest, a text-based game engine made specifically for Kindles and any classic-game-loving nerds who own them.
Actually, PortableQuest works just fine from a standard browser, but its in-game save function is custom-made for the Kindle’s powers. From the text interface, you can register a username, set up a game ID, and load and save your games—which are then saved across your other Kindle devices, too, through WhisperNet.
PortableQuest comes loaded with a “mini” version of Zork I, along with what looks like the majority of Zork I, II, and III. It is, as you might imagine, addictive, up until you feel lost—but we hear there are plenty of places around the web where you can get help with a walkthrough.
