Windows/Linux: For those who back up to DVD, multiple USB drives or just have a lot of storage devices around, there probably aren’t enough labels or markers to keep everything in order. That’s where storage tracker Basenji comes in.
Basenji is a free, open-source indexer of storage medium, as well as a means of keeping track of what every disc is and where it went to. After attaching or inserting the thing you want to track, Basenji gets to work indexing its contents, whether it’s a data store, a music CD or a video DVD. You assign a title and keywords if you’d like, and if you loan it out to somebody, enter those details as well. When you need to find something, load up Basenji and start a search, and you’ll get fast results on where and how you can find everything.
Basenji is a free download for Windows and Linux systems. On Windows, it requires the installation of GTK Sharp, which itself requires a system restart.
