Qantas May Return To Some Jetstar Routes

When Qantas launched Jetstar back in 2003, it began a process of removing Qantas flights from many routes in favour of the orange-coloured, cheaper alternative. Now it looks like that process might get reversed to some destinations.

At the Australian, Damon Kitney reports via an interview with Jetstar chief Bruce Buchanan that Qantas is looking at more overlapping routes with Jetstar, having already resumed flights to Hamilton Island last year. It names Broome as a likely area where the two airlines will overlap in the future.

If Qantas is serious about pursuing this strategy, I hope the Gold Coast is near the top of the list. I was pleasantly surprised by the Gold Coast Jetstar lounge, but I’d still rather have a full-scale Qantas service.

What destinations would you like to see returned to by Qantas? Park your thoughts in the comments.

Qantas navigates a return on routes ceded to Jetstar [The Australian]

  • Hamilton Island Jet Service from Brisbane …. the QantasLink Dash 8’s from Cairns is hardly a return to Hamilton Island for Qantas, an early morning departure eliminates any connection possibilities.

  • Actually wish Jetstar would return to Direct services between Sydney & Hervey Bay, QLD. Currently only Virgin Blue operate non-stop services. QF/Qantas Link operate via BNE. Since Jetstar’s departure fares are noticebly more expensive due to lack of competition on the run. Ironically every JQ flight I ever took was mostly full so my fingers are crossed.

  • Ballina would be nice. Jetstar are always stupidly late leaving making Virgin Blue the only realistic option if you want to get where you need to go in good time. If the Qantas Group want to make a buck in the region, they need to improved on time running.

    • Chris, check out the on time arrival stats.

Qantas consistantly beats Virgin, as does Jetstar. Virgin is pretty much the worse on time performer (excluding Tiger!). Virgin also cancel a heap more flights…
