DIY Solid Ice Drink Tray

If you're looking for a clever way to keep your drinks cold, blogger and DIYer Rob has the solution: A solid block of ice in which you can hold bottles or cans.

After a lot of trial and error, Rob figured out the perfect method to create a beer caddy out of a giant block of ice. Just fill some bottles with sand, place them in a tub with some water and freeze them. Once it's frozen, you can dump out the sand and fill the bottles with warm water to dislodge them.

Afterwards, you can store the block in the freezer, and put your beer bottles in the empty holes when it's time to use it. Since the bottles you place in the caddy will be completely surrounded by ice, it should do a better job of keeping them cooler than regular ice cubes—since more of the ice's surface area will be in contact with them. Not only that, but it makes for a great conversation starter. Hit the link for detailed instructions, and check out the video above for a closer look.

except when the holes melt and no longer touch the beer bottles. I still like the Salt, Ice and Water trick to get the water below freezing point to cool my drinks.

For cooler drinks still, add a little water into the holes before putting your beers in. Water is much more conductive than air or ice
