If you find yourself away from home where electricity is scarce but need to keep all your tech charged (you know, for safety reasons), this cheap DIY generator will do the trick.
The materials for this project only cost about $US20, and the main components are an old lawn edger and a permanent magnet DC motor. It outputs 10 Amps and 12 Volts, which should be more than enough to power the little necessities when you're in the middle of nowhere. All you need to do is disassemble part of the lawn edger and securely mount the motor on it. You'll even have wheels already connected for easy transportation.
