Even the messiest of pack rats and the most lax of record keepers eventually gets spotlessly organised. They just might not be around to enjoy it. Jump start your week by getting organised and enjoying a more manageable life.

Erin Doland, of the organisation blog Unclutterer, reflects on a presentation she attended:
During a presentation at a conference I attended a couple years ago, Illinois-based professional organizer Sue DeRoos made the obvious, yet insightful comment:
Everyone gets organized at some point, they just might not be around for it.
DeRoos' comment was morbid, but absolutely true. At some point, someone is responsible for sorting, purging, and getting your affairs in order - either you do it while you're alive, or your loved ones do it after your gone.
All but one of my grandparents have died in the last five years, and I've participated in the dissolution of all their estates and properties. With sound authority I can assure all of you that whether you put your files in order and sweep away the clutter from your home or not, it will be done by someone's hand and most likely through the labour of loved ones you leave behind. It's a morbid thought, to be sure, but it's also a powerful impetus to take control of your life and reign in the disorder and clutter around you. If your house will be clean and orderly eventually and your file cabinets sorted through and properly organised, why not be the one to do it and enjoy an uncluttered home and workflow?
Earlier this year we shared a guide to help you get out from under your office crap but the core principles in the guide will help you get any space from your bedroom to your garage workshop in order. Worried you'll never get out from under your mess? Check out my workspace makeover. Two years ago my office was so messy it was completely dysfunctional and now it's a clutter-free and focused place to get things done.
Whether you make this the week you drag three car loads of donations to a charity and totally overhaul your file cabinets or you start smaller, make this the week you make organisation a great new habit.
