Today’s featured workspace is a from-the-ground-up conversion of a garage into an awesome home office complete with a custom polished steel desk, well-done lighting, and a cigar smoking station.
Lifehacker reader leftlanedesigns recently converted part of his garage into a home office to make room for new arrivals.
With all of the bedrooms in our home filled up one at a time by our three kiddos, we needed more space for my home office. We built a wall in our 2-car garage, dividing it in half, and converted this half into a home office. The front half of the garage is still available for storage.
Although primarily a home office, I added an attic ventilation fan that allows me to enjoy an occasional cigar while visiting with clients and friends.
The backstop behind his lengthy desk is steel sheeting, as is the desk itself. Check out the photos below to see the impressive shine he put on the steel desk as well as his other design considerations and office amenities.
