If you feel overwhelmed by email, it might be because your inbox is mostly wasted space. By focusing your communication through the right tools, you can avoid drowning in an endless inbox.
Email is often the default form of communication, but it can also be the least efficient. Lars Plougmann, client engagement manager over at Dachis Group (full disclosure: my uncle's company), tackles the difficult task of cleaning out your inbox by eliminating messages before they're thought into existence. Plougmann recommends separating types of communication by their velocity (fast moving, fleeting and slow moving) and applying the best tool for each type. Making use of more appropriate and efficient communication methods — where applicable — can save you time and keep your email inbox a bit more manageable.
