Turn Off HTC's Sense UI On Your Android Phone

While a lot of people really like HTC's custom Sense UI, many prefer the vanilla Android experience available on the Nexus One. Reader Duane shows us how to disable Sense on some HTC Android phones.

Today I found out how to turn off the HTC Sense interface on my HTC Eris phone. It was at:

Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > HTC Sense > Clear defaults. Now when I click the home button it will ask me what interface I want to use (the Android default, usually called "Launcher" or "Home", or the HTC Sense).

You may need to hit the "All" tab to find HTC Sense on the list of applications under "Manage Applications." You can also pick whether to use the vanilla launcher or HTC sense as the default by checking the "Use by default for this action" checkbox after you hit the home button. You can also check out the above video for a walkthrough of the steps. We tested this on both an HTC Hero and a Droid Eris and found that it worked beautifully, so let us know if it works for your phone in the comments. The other alternative, of course, is to install a different home screen altogether.
