Last year we showed you how to turn a tomato cage into a simple holiday decoration. Today’s DIY project turns a tomato cage into an easy-to customise lamp.
Tomato cages already have a lamp shade shape to them so it seems only natural Kelly Wilkinson — the crafter behind Make Grow Gather — would write up a tutorial for the Washington Post on how to turn one into a novel outdoor lantern.
Our favourite part about this project is how easily you can customise the look based on the fabric and fabric detailing you choose. In the photo here the tomato cage lanterns have an antique/country vibe thanks to the heavier cotton fabric and floral detail. You could just as easily use white rip-stop nylon for a sleek and modern look. Check out the link below for step-by-step instructions and photos to help you create your own custom outdoor lighting.
