Run Android On Your Windows Mobile Phone

Windows Mobile: If you’re interested in trying out Android but you’re locked into your current contract with a Windows Mobile phone don’t despair. Quite a few Windows Mobile phones have the right hardware to support Android booting — without erasing Windows Mobile.

Most of the time when you want to do something wild and new with your phone it involved flashing the on-board ROM. This clever hack doesn’t require you to nuke your phone and start from scratch, however, you just need a compatible phone, a non-SDHC microSD card and the patience to tinker a little.

There isn’t a one-click installer available for the process and it doesn’t work on all phones — Windows Mobile phones manufactured by HTC are the most heavily supported &mdash ;so you’ll need to do a little reading on which build works with which phone. Fortunately over at the how-to website How-To Geek they’ve put together a guide to helping you find a build, setting up the microSD card and booting from Windows Mobile to Android.

If you’re in an experimenting mood it’s a neat way to try out Android on your Windows Mobile phone — the only Windows Mobile phone we have is out of the office until later today, but you can bet we’ll be playing with this hack as soon as it gets back. Sound off in the comments with your favourite Windows Mobile hacks or, better yet, the results of your Windows Mobile to Android tinkering.
