Fwix Aggregates Hyper-Local News For Nearby, Relevant Stories

Fwix is a news aggregation service focused on dishing the dirt on hyper-local news stories to help you stay on top of what's happening right in your backyard. Fwix is available both in Australia and select countries abroad.

Fwix serves up local news in hundreds of locales across multiple countries — it's currently available in the US, Great Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand — and is available both as a web-based service and as an iOS application. The screenshot above is of a search for robbery-related news in Grand Rapids, Michigan, using the new web-based search that mashes up your local news feed and a map of the area. Users with devices like the iPad can use geo-location to automatically find local news and browse it via touchscreen.

Fwix is a free service but requires basic registration or the use of your Facebook credentials if you want to have an automatically updated local feed and email update. Have a favourite service for getting timely and local news? Let's hear about it in the comments.
