While a lot of pipe-based projects use cheap PVC pipe, this is one of those projects where you might want to spring for something a bit more stylish and sturdy, such as galvanised or aluminium pipe. While the original instructions involve a small bit of welding, there are a lot of ways you could change the design to eliminate that need (like adding more cross pipes to the bottom).
