When you think of cat doors you probably think of a way for cats to go in and out of a house with ease. This hack uses a cat door to give your cat access to a hidden litter box.
Hidden in this case is, admittedly a bit of a misnomer, as the cat-sized door in the closet door is a dead give away that something other than coat storage is going on inside. Nonetheless if you buy a sturdy cat door designed for outdoor use you’ll have a great way to contain the smells of the litter box as well as keep litter from tracking in and out.
If you’re not too keen on the look of the cat door you could always use a jigsaw and carefully craft your own cat door. I made a cat door on our basement door to allow the door to remain safely closed when my daughter was in her wobbly learning-to-walk phase but still let the cats get down to their food, water and litter. It’s just a simple door shape cut out with hinges and a tiny latch. The upside to the DIY-door is that it blends into the door and when closed most people would never notice it.
