Windows: Having a portable version of Firefox on your thumb drive can be really convenient. Make Firefox, and OpenOffice.org and other apps, more adaptable and web-ready by installing Java Portable on that same thumb drive.
Java Portable, from the PortableApps.com team, installs itself in the same menu structure as your other portable apps, and quietly sits on your USB space until an app calls for it, whether to run a particular webapp or utilise an OpenOffice feature. It would be pretty neat if desktop users could keep Java Portable handy, so that their system can find it without requiring an installation and regular update nagging. If you know how to pull off that kind of installation, let us know in the comments!
Java Portable is a free download, runs with other PortableApps.com apps on Windows systems.
