Google Search Homepage Gets Bing-Like Backgrounds

We've always liked the minimal Google.com homepage, but if you prefer a little spice to your search page (à la Bing), you'll like Google's new background image feature.

It's a simple enough feature that we've heard rumours of here and there: Just go to Google.com, move your mouse to the bottom left of the screen and click Change background image, and pick any image from Google's Public gallery, your Picasa web album photos or upload any image from your desktop. (As ever, Google is spreading the international rollout over a few days, so the feature may not appear immediately on your PC.)

This post probably should have quoted "We are beginning to roll out this new feature to users in the U.S. over the next few days, so if you don’t see a link in the lower left-hand corner of Google.com now, check back soon. For those of you outside of the U.S., you can expect to see this new feature in the coming days as we roll it out internationally to offer similar, consistent experiences globally."

I got all excited and then all disappointed :-/

So, finally Google is doing it. I don't know if it's an outcome of a mere enhancement or fear of Bing!!!

Of course it is a fear of Bing. Look at all the other features they have rolled out whether it is from that new side bar they have put in to apps in maps.

Majority of what they are doing is a direct copy off of Bing anyway.
