Get The Bill Early When Eating Out While Losing Weight

If you're trying to lose weight (or maintain the weight you're at) then dining out can be a particular challenge. Make sure you're not tempted by dessert with a simple strategy: get the bill as soon as your main course is delivered.

That strategy is recommended by actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, who told People magazine that it's one of her key tactics for staying slim:

I get the check as my main course comes; that way there's no chance I'm having dessert. We're not even going to have that conversation.

While the odd restaurant might balk at the idea, you can always say that you're on a tight schedule and don't want to lose time later in the meal. As well as saving your waistline, it's also a neat way of saving money when dining out.

Where possible, I try to only older 'entree' sized mains. But that's more to do with the fact my stomach isn't big enough to eat most main-sized dishes.
